For over forty five years, I have sought the best examples, assessed by the most rigorous science, demonstrating how the ancient Australian landscape reveals a blueprint for global climate recovery. The evidence for this science has accumulated over the longest time, millions of years, across the oldest and largest area possible, the Australian continent, and is measurably accounted for in the fossil and sedimentary records. Now, it is time for the world to discover the incredible blueprint for climate recovery that this ancient landscape provides.

Let's consider some of the basic tenets of The Australian Landscape Science (TALS):
  • Planet Earth is a great recycling system that transforms the Sun’s energy into life-giving compounds.
  • Carbon can be a blessing, rather than a curse, as all carbon-based life is simply sunlight packaged by plants.
  • The Australian continent has recovered from desertification countless times throughout geological history, because it had the greatest range of plants, the longest hours of sunlight, operating 24/7.
  • The bio-geomorphic record contains all the evidence required to show that the Australian landscape science has been demonstrated and proven for the longest period of time, over the largest area imaginable.
  • Plants are the solar powered units that recycle all compounds to build biological complexity. Microbes and fungi are the willing workers that the plants must feed.
  • Plants evolved the most efficient use of water to harness the sun's energy, cool the landscape and balance the atmosphere.
  • The landscape was almost erosion-free, because plants filtered sediments for nutrients, as they built and sustained the valleys, floodplains, coastlines and islands.
  • Complexity accumulates through tens of millions of biological compounds, providing us with a healthy landscape, healthy food and a stable climate.

Australia's landscape contains the blueprint for immediate climate recovery efforts and the laboratory for continuous learning and improvement. What we now need most urgently is for The Australian Landscape Science to be adopted by governments and land managers. This should start by ensuring that all policies and implementations involving landscapes, plants and water are framed and actioned according to this ancient landscape blueprint.
