Previous ecological civilisations and current gardeners who use mulch-farming are the most efficient producers. For example, if our biological asset was a trillion dollars, we could double it in one year while reducing costs.

Solar-powered plants that work 24/7 manufacture food and scrub the atmosphere of CO2, releasing oxygen, purifying water, filtering biological production from being lost to the sea while modifying (climate) thermal energies.

Demonstrations of the above are available for assessment by the most rigorous scientific analysis.

Plants made the landmass habitable; a quarter has been reduced to desert by human activity and animals.

80% of water has been drained from the land, trillions of tons of sediment returned to the sea.

The Australian continent was once an example of optimal landscape function. A skeleton still remains of how solar-powered plants evolved all the above efficiencies.
Our wold leaders are ignoring this at their own peril.

Hi Peter.
Thank you for your service to Australia and the world. I used to be opposed to the idea of climate change because I believed and still do believe that there have been cycles of climate change. In the last 200 odd years the population of the earth has multiplied many times over and human activity has influenced our climate.

I fully agree with you that early European settlers saw the flat land on west of the ranged as potentially a great farm land and stripped the land of all the land at a rapid pace. We have come to understand that trees do keep moisture in the ground. It is counter intuitive.
The moisture levels a meter below ground are drier than ever before!!

A major question I have for you is how do we get that moisture back. I hear you say we need to grow trees in the drought areas but how do we do that when the soil moisture is so low?

What comes first trees, vegetation or water?

How do we get water into the parched areas if there is little or no more rain?

There is an abundance of water in the north of Australia but it seems that even the north are having shorter but wet seasons but more intense rain events like last years wet season. Shorter mor intense rain means less deep soil moisture and more lose of soil to the oceans.

What do you think about getting some of the water from the north into the Darling River.
